Pucker Up is Karen Casey’s tribute to the joyful art of whistling. For this exhibition Casey brings together a selection of friends and acquaintances and gives them a simple task – to whistle a well known Hollywood score. What has transpired are remarkable performances, both heartfelt and full of character. In editing these tuneful and not-so-tuneful whistling renditions, Casey creates a work wherein the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts.
Casey is an Australian interdisciplinary/new media artist who explores intersections between the arts, science and society. Casey has exhibited in numerous curatorial and overseas touring exhibitions since the late 1980s and is widely represented in national galleries and public collections in Australia and internationally including the British Museum, London; Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam; National Gallery Australia; National Gallery Victoria; Art Gallery New South Wales; Queensland Art Gallery; Art Gallery South Australia; Art Gallery Western Australia; Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery; Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
