Jack Rowland, Gazer, 2012, oil on linen,100 x 100cm
The well-trodden landscape around Castlemaine is reborn in the vivid, psychedelic canvases of young Melbourne artist, Jack Rowland. His works explore the notion of altered perception with an intense palette of hyper-real and oversaturated colours combined with a realist style of technical painting. As Rowland breaks the traditional ties attached to the genre of landscape painting, he re-instates its position in contemporary art.
