Jarek Wojcik

From salacious apples tumbling through space to curious crocodiles housed within chequered foyers, Jarek Wojcik invites you to enter a world of exquisite beauty. From within these hyper-real worlds Wojcik combines the still life tradition with modern artefacts to offer a self-reflexive critique of the history, perception and status of traditional painting methods in contemporary art.

Wojcik studied at the University of Poznan, Poland, where he received his MA in medieval mural art. In 2015, he held his first solo exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery, Spaces and Things; a satirical exploration of the Nuevo Riche and bourgeois culture. Wojcik’s work has also been the subject of solo exhibitions at galleries in Hong Kong, Melbourne, Paris, Perth, Szczecin and Sydney.

Wojcik’s work has been included in group exhibitions at Charles Hewitt Gallery, Sydney (2013); 2011 Korea International Art Fair (KIAF); National Musuem, Poland (2010); the German Embassy, Canberra (2007); Benalla Art Gallery, Benalla (2007); and Galerie Brotzinger, Pforzheim (2007).  He has been a finalist for the Eutick Memorial Still Life Award for his painting Museum Series: 0012 and in 2006 he was Highly Commended in the 4th International Biennal of Miniature Art. Wojcik is represented in the collections of the National Museum in Szczecin, Poland, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, Canberra, and the Copelouzos Private Art Museum, Athens. Wojcik moved to Melbourne in 1985, where he continues to live and work.
