The dreamy natural environments depicted in this new series of work by Grant Nimmo belong in the psyche of the hippie generation. With cool detachment this exhibition explores a set of ideas and images that lead lost souls back to Nature.
Majestic mountains, valleys, forests and rivers form the backdrops of these pictures, all painted with loose, simple brushwork. Against this all-too-beautiful imagery, Nimmo overlays surreal details and compositional distortions: bearded mountain-folk hover like ghosts over the terrain, rainbow-coloured lines of energy radiate out of gorges and lakes, and landscapes flip upside down and transform into mysterious abstract faces.
