White Line, Green Way takes its cue from metropolitan signage, scaffolding, billboards and telegraph wires. Lisa Andrew delves into the uncertainty of urban development; the geographical limbo of built and unbuilt landscapes. Through the construction of her own hybrid visual language Andrew attempts to undermine structures and codes of communication where urban sprawl meets the bush. Andrew constructs metaphors for labelling and redefining geographical spaces; the middle ground in which visions of what is and what could be converge.

By utilising basic mechanical patterns and endless repetition of the same perfunctory forms, she injects into these impersonal designs the human element. Hand-cut by the artist, Andrew’s montage of papers and textiles are immediately imbued with an individuality that defies the absence of mechanical reproduction. They are fragile, irregular and flawed.
